Lay Clerkships
New College Choir includes six lay clerks, professional singers who sing alto, tenor and bass alongside the academical clerks. They provide continuity within the choir and bring experience and vocal maturity to the ensemble. Lay clerks are salaried employees of the college and earn professional fees for recordings and concerts. The lay clerks’ other professional work is largely in the teaching and freelance sector.
Past lay clerks have moved on to careers in conducting and consort singing (Stile Antico, The Sixteen, Marian Consort), as well as solo work in oratorio and opera. Vacancies are advertised as they occur on this website.
